When I was about 20 years old, I learned that the majority of the packaged foods in the US were manufactured and sold by just several huge companies. It had been no coincidence that these same foods were full of filler ingredients and devoid of anything actually nutritious.

I was shocked to learn the wine industry in the US is exactly the same. In the usa, 52% of the wine bought from stores is made just by three massive companies. These conventional wines might have up to 70 ingredients in them, including added sugar and preservatives.

It makes sense that organic wine is a thing, but why had Irrrve never seen it around before? And where the heck would you even buy organic wine?

Why Are Organic Wines Important?

Just like buying organic produce and clothing, buying organic wines matters since it limits toxins going into your body AND into the planet.

Organic wines are made without artificial herbicides and pesticides, and grown with cool methods like cover cropping that deter pests naturally. Some vineyards even have sheep graze between the rows of the grapes to help keep weeds at bay.

Pesticides happen to be associated with all kinds of health issues in humans, from sterility to hormonal birth defects, but are also closely from the vanishing from the bees (or colony collapse disorder).

The biggest thing you will find from the glass's perspective by having an organic wine though is that this stuff is purer – fewer sulfites, fewer ingredients, and absolutely nothing toxic to keep it shelf stable.

The result is that organic vino is pretty tough to come by, and just made in small batches. Luckily for us, Primal Wine exists.

Four Wines We Absouletely Adore

#1 – Simone Red Blend 2022

This red blend comes completely from a natural vineyard in northern California. Like many of Primal Wines' stock, this vino is 100% unrefined and unfiltered. Even so though, I had been pleasantly surprised at how clear and normal this wine looked.

Reds and I possess a complicated relationship – frequently will i buy that offers to be considered a blend, only to discover it to be far too dry for my preferences, and much more around the pinot side than the blush.

This red blend am, so smooth and pleasant to drink. It was nice and dry along with a little sweet, with a slight zing into it similar to kombucha in some ways. I'd my glass lightly chilled at a campsite in the mountains, and it was an ideal compliment to a dinner of roasted vegetables and steak.

#2 – Cascadia Pinot Noir 2022

This pinot noir is a natural wine, but was made with conventionally farmed grapes. That said, it lacks many of the additives most conventional wines have, and it is made using native yeast.

Most of times I've found pinot noirs to become too intense for my palette, however i was amazed with just how much I liked this pinot by Franchere – it was actually my favorite wine. I was even happier to locate that the wine was made just to the south of me, within the beautiful Willamette Valley in Oregon.

This wine was around the dryer side, but for someone much like me who tends to prefer sweeter wines, this one am enjoyable. There is a definite note of fruitiness to it, but it's not what I'd call a sweet wine.

#3 – Vino Bianco 2022

This white wine by Cantina Indigeno is made in central Italy with organic grapes, and it is noticeably unrefined and unfiltered. It features a pry off top, but it's not a bubbly wine.

I really, really loved that one. It had been so mild and easy to drink, with this same zing the red blend had, which makes me think that's only a pleasant characteristic of organic wines.

I had this one having a dinner of grilled chicken and steamed vegetables, also it was all so light and refreshing. This one is flavor neutral enough that it could be perfect as a white wine spritzer, but has enough character on its own to sit down solo inside a glass by a home-cooked meal.

#4 – Fedelie Bianco Pet Nat NV

This white wine from Sicily is made with my personal favorite type of grapes – organic moscato. It's very low sulfites, and like the other white wine, is unrefined and unfiltered. What you'll see in a bottle of wine such as this is similar to a specific item in a bottle of unfiltered apple cider vinegar treatment: some brownish, grainy material that settles in the bottle.

It's completely normal, along with a manifestation of an excellent wine that's been left the heck alone.

I expected this wine to become a bit more effervescent, but it wasn't as bubbly like a full on moscato. Having said that, it had been delicious, and not sweetened with a lot of added sugar like so many commercially made moscatos I've had.

I really love the taste of this wine chilled, and it is an ideal summer sipper with a big salad. That said, it might not result in the fizziest of mimosas, so save this beauty to be savored by itself.
